How to Quick Search for Journal Impact Factor and Rankings 🔍

Feature Introduction

You can directly search for journal's JCR impact factor, journal quartiles, CAS rankings, and other key information within the PaperPop extension.

Search Steps



Step 1: Open Search Interface

  1. Click the PaperPop icon in your browser toolbar 🔧
  2. Find the "JCR & IF Search" section in the settings panel

Step 2: Enter Journal Information

Enter journal information in the search box, supporting multiple formats:

Full Journal Name Examples:

  • Nature
  • Science
  • Cell
  • The Lancet
  • Journal of Machine Learning Research

Journal Abbreviation Examples:

  • JMLR (Journal of Machine Learning Research)
  • PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences)
  • N ENGL J MED (New England Journal of Medicine)
  1. After entering the journal name, click the "Search" button 🔍
  2. Or press Enter for quick search

Step 4: View Results

After a successful search, detailed journal information will be displayed below:

Impact Factor Information 📊
  • Current Impact Factor (IF): Shows the latest annual impact factor value
  • 5-Year Impact Factor (IF 5Y): Shows the five-year average impact factor
  • Color Coding:
    • IF > 5: Excellent Journal
    • 2 < IF ≤ 5: Good Journal
    • 1 < IF ≤ 2: Average Journal
    • IF < 1: Low Impact Factor Journal
Journal Quartile Information 🏆
  • JCR Quartiles: Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 four levels
  • CAS Categories: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th tier four levels
Journal Ranking Information 📋

Display relevant rankings based on your settings:

  • Core Journals: Peking University Core Journal Catalog
  • CSSCI: Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index
  • CCF Recommended: China Computer Federation Recommended Journals
  • SWJTU Classification: Southwest Jiaotong University Journal Classification

Search Tips 💡

Input Tips

  1. Fuzzy Matching Support: No need to enter the complete exact journal name
  2. Case Insensitive: nature and Nature have the same effect
  3. Automatic Stop Word Processing: Automatically ignores words like The, A, An
  4. Full Name Priority: If journal abbreviations don't yield results, try using the full journal name.

Search Results Explanation

No Results Message

If "No results found" is displayed, possible reasons:

  • Incorrect journal name input
  • Journal not in database (e.g., newly established journals)
  • Journal is a conference proceedings, not within journal database scope

  • JCR Data: From the latest 2024 Journal Citation Reports
  • CAS Categories: From the latest 2025 Chinese Academy of Sciences Library and Information Center Journal Classification
  • Journal Rankings: From authoritative institutions' publicly released journal catalogs -- Compiled from university library and public internet data, may contain errors or delays. Please report any errors to us, thank you~
